At the beginning of November, two acquaintances (not close friends, but close friends of people I care about very much) were hit by a car. One was killed on the spot, and the other has severe brain damage and is in a coma from which she will probably never wake up. Yesterday, a friend of a friend was diagnosed with probably-terminal brain cancer. She’s in her mid-30s and has a 3-year-old child at home.
It’s hard to find anything cheerful or positive in news like this, but it sure does remind me to be grateful every single day that I have a fully functioning mind. The ability to think is neither a right nor an inevitability, but I am thankful for it while it lasts.
