I shall write this introductory post in the form of an FAQ, despite the fact that very few of these questions have been asked of me at all, let alone asked frequently.
Q: What is Superplexa.wordpress.com?
A: A Blog, of course. Someday, it might be more than that, if I get around to it.
Q: Who is Superplexa!?
A: Superplexa! is the author’s superheroine aspect.
Q: I see. Superheroines usually have some mission to save the world. What’s yours?
A: To rid the world of confusion.
Q: And do you have a superpower?
A: Of course. I confuse people. I occasionally confuse myself too. Rumor has it that when I do this, I turn invisible. I have never personally witnessed this though.
Q: OK, so your quest is to rid the world of confusion, but you do this by confusing people. Um, I see. Actually, I don’t. How does that work?
A: That is too complicated for mere mortals to understand, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. Actually, I don’t understand it either.
Q: Now that we know who you are, what do you plan to write about?
A: Whatever I damn well please. I know lots about math and linguistics. I also care a lot about education and religion and politics. I especially care about Montessori education, and about how politics, the media, and our view education.
Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
A: Sure. I used to study math, but then I came to my senses and switched to grad school in linguistics. I’ve since come to my senses again and realized I’m tired of academia. Next year, I will be taking the AMI Montessori teacher training to become a Montessori elementary level guide.
Q: What do you plan to do after that?
A: Fight confusion fulltime.
Q: And what about the other stuff? What should we expect about religion and stuff?
A: Well…I’m a Jewish Buddhist Agnostic with atheist leanings and very little patience for anyone who takes their religion too seriously or too literally. I’ve yet to figure out what it means to be a good person, but I’m trying. I’m also a math tutor and standardized test prep teacher, who pretty much thinks that our entire education system should be thrown out and rebuilt. Isn’t consistency fun?
Q: OK, so basically, you’re nuts. Can we agree on that?
Q: What other crazy things do you believe?
A: I believe peace is possible, or at least worth fighting for. I believe people are mostly good, and they don’t do bad things without reason. I believe gay people should have the right to marry (I really, really believe that one). I believe in socialized medicine. In fact, I don’t really believe socialism is all that bad, though I’m not so fond of totalitarian dictatorships. I believe angels sing when Obama speaks. OK, scratch that last one, there are no angels.
